Vitamin & supplement counseling


The human body requires around 40 micronutrients to function normally. Most people are not getting all the nutrients they need in a day, especially with a typical American diet, so supplementing micronutrients is important. Nutrient deficiency is very common, and can cause you to have issues such as low energy, brittle nails and hair, poor sleep, and low immunity, just to name a few. Even if you eat healthy and organic and grow your own vegetables, you’re still probably not getting all the nutrients you need.


One of the many issues in conventional (non organic) farming is that the soil nutrients have been depleting over time due to practices such as using synthetic fertilizers, monoculture (only farming one type of crop over the same soil year after year), and tillage based farming (tilling fields to remove crop residue and mix up the top soil), which doesn’t sound bad, but it actually reduces microbe populations in the soil and promotes soil erosion. Also, the use of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides are harming the soil, the bees, the butterflies, the birds, and us! If any of what you just heard bothers you, you can: 1) start growing your own food, or 2) vote with your dollars and support organic farming! 

To give you an example, the magnesium content in vegetables has declined a lot over the past several decades. Studies show that calcium, phosphorus, riboflavin, and vitamin C have also declined in fruits, vegetables and grains.

Also, most people buy their fruits and vegetables from a grocery store and not a local farmer or farmers market…The produce in grocery stores are at least 5 days old before they get there, if not weeks old…and by then the nutrients have depleted by about half. And of course you also loose nutrients when you cook food…so you see my point. Supplements are very important. We simply are not getting enough nutrients through food alone.

I get it…you hear, you should be taking this, and this, and that, oh and this one is really important too, and so on…And there’s more, depending on the quality of your vitamins, they may not even be absorbing in your body, and then you are wasting your money. It all can be very confusing and overwhelming!
