Glowing Skin for Spring and Summer

If you live in the south like I do, spring is well underway, the weather is warming up and everyone is getting outdoors to enjoy it! I am always ready for this to happen, and long for it during the cold winter months…but with this I realize I have to put some extra work into, what I call  “summer-izing” my body so it can be seen by the light of day! 🤣 There’s a few things I do to get my skin silky smooth so my body can emerge from it’s captivity in the long sleeves, pants and Ugg boots. And that is actually how it feels for me…I despise layers of clothing and winter clothes, although clearly it’s necessary to stay warm, bleh! 😝 My body just wants to feel light and free in shorts, tank tops, and flip flops! I definitely feel more like myself when I can dress this way. 😎

That said, I would like to share with you some things that I do, and products that I use to get my body ready for the warm months, all naturally!

The first thing I do is give my skin a deep exfoliation with my DIY salt scrub and coconut oil (see recipe below). You do not need to spend $20 or more on a nice body scrub, the kind you buy most likely has allll kinds of things in it that your skin would be happy without! Keeping it simple and natural is always what’s best for your skincare routine!

Salt scrub with a nice mineral salt is not only a nice exfoliator, it also detoxifies your skin, and is energetically cleansing as well (thank you salt)! The exfoliation is also very good for the lymphatic system by helping to get the fluid flowing, which can help with immunity, and can be energizing as well! (Your lymphatic system is in charge of your immune system, nutrient absorption, and preventing infection and disease…very important!) Coconut oil in combination with the salt works well to moisture and soothe the skin. Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-microbial, and anti-viral, and is great for locking in moisture and keeping the skin smooth and hydrated. This body scrub is perfect for a nourishing whole body renewal, and also sending your body the message that it’s worth the extra care, attention and love!  *This is not for the face since it’s a bit too coarse for it. It is for the body only!

Another good option for exfoliation is the CleanLogic Charcoal Infused Body Exfoliating Cloth, I sometimes use this as well as an alternate! You can find it in natural food stores, and apparently Walmart, Target, and Amazon! After exfoliating, if you use this cloth, you will want to moisturize with a nice body oil or cream. Some brands that I use, love, and recommend are:

  • Annmarie Coconut Body Oil, and their Love Body Oil…this one is my FAVORITE…the intoxicating smell will have you swooning!! All of Annmarie’s body and facial care products are the best wild crafted, natural skin care products I have found! I have been using them for about 10 or more years now. (This brand is SO worth the price if you have the means!)

  •  100% Pure is another wonderful skincare brand that I also recommend. Their body creams and lotions are my other favorite…their coconut and lavender scents to be exact!

  • The Seaweed Bath Co. Awaken Rosemary & Mint Firming Detox Cream is another one I use and like! Whole Foods carries it and other natural grocers. It has a nice refreshing feel on the skin.

These are my tried and true, top 3 natural skin care brands I recommend for body care!

Next up is the face! My DIY Coconut Honey Mask recipe is my favorite facial mask…it’s simple, nourishing, hydrating and cleansing. (See recipe below.) This is a great one to give your face that natural glow! The live enzymes and amino acids in the honey will smooth and plump your skin! The coconut oil, high in lauric acid, will soothe and moisturize. My two girls are super into skincare and really love this mask…but they haven’t been able to get through a whole jar of it because they end up eating it! 🤦‍♀️😂 This mask can actually be used anywhere on the body that you like to refresh, soothe and deeply hydrate your skin!

So there you have it, my friends, you now have the secret to nourishing, glowing skin for your whole body to get it ready for spring and summer! Yes, these recipes are super simple, but simplicity is EVERYTHING! Especially when it comes to what you put in and on body! Your body will thank you. ☺️

I also have to note, glowing skin truly comes from the inside; outer body care is only temporary unless you add in this very important factor…this will be the topic of my next blog post! Enjoy and let me know if you try it, I would love to hear! 💖

Exfoliating Salt Scrub Recipe

- 2 tbs Redmond Real Salt (I highly recommend this brand specifically for it’s high mineral content and for it’s fine texture, it’s perfect for this scrub! Find at Whole Foods, Thrive Market, Vitacost, and other natural food stores. This is also the salt I recommend for seasoning!)

- 2 tbs Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil (I love Barlean’s and Thrive Market coconut oil.)

- 7 drops lavender essential oil (I use Doterra, but any high quality EO is good, some other high quality oils are Young Living and Mountain Rose Herbs. IMO, Doterra is the best I have found and I highly recommend it!)

Put all ingredients in a glass or ceramic bowl, mix in with a fork until smooth. (Do not use a plastic or melamine bowl because the essential oils will break it down.) Store in a glass mason jar in a cool dry place.

 Honey Coconut Oil Facial Mask

 - 1 tbs Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil

- 2 tbs unprocessed local honey

Put both ingredients in 4 oz glass mason jar, mix together with a fork until smooth. Store in a cool dry place.
